The garlic capital of the world, at the south end of Santa Clara Valley.

The Gilroy Garlic Festival ran from 1979 until a 2019 shooting, and has since returned in smaller form.
The smell of garlic processing is a local landmark in itself.
It is named for a Scottish sailor who jumped ship in 1814.
