A coal town, named for the company that opened the mines in the 1880s and brought miners from Wales, Italy and Croatia.

The bakery in the old town has been selling bread from a brick oven since 1902.
The mines closed in the 1920s and the town shrank for sixty years.
A large planned development on the old coal land has been the main local argument for two decades.
