The only incorporated town in Wahkiakum County, on the Columbia across from Puget Island and the Oregon shore.

The name is from a Chinookan word, often given as stone.
A bridge connects to Puget Island, and a small ferry crosses from there to Oregon.
The town was a salmon cannery center.
