Everett was founded in 1890 on speculation, with eastern money betting the railroad would end here. It got mills, then Boeing, and became the industrial city of the north sound.

• The Boeing plant at Paine Field is the largest building in the world by volume.
• The Everett massacre of 1916, a gunfight between IWW members and a sheriff's posse on the city dock, left several dead.
• It is named for the son of one of the investors.
