A fishing port near the mouth of the Columbia, at the base of the Long Beach Peninsula.
- The Columbia River bar offshore has sunk enough vessels to be called the graveyard of the Pacific.
- Cape Disappointment's lighthouse, from 1856, is the oldest still working in the state.
- The town was the terminus of a narrow gauge railway that ran on the tide timetable.
