Kelso, Washington

The Cowlitz County seat, across the river from Longview, named by a Scottish surveyor for his home town.

The two cities function as one, with Kelso the older.
Mount St. Helens ash choked the Cowlitz here in 1980 and the river had to be dredged.
The rail depot still serves Amtrak.
